BEHIND THE NAME: Halloween, in Ireland they call it “Hallow E’en”, it means All Hallows Eve, or ‘All Souls’ Day. In old English the word ‘Hallow’ meant ‘sanctify’. Roman Catholics, Episcopalians and Lutherians used to observe All Hallows Day to honor all Saints in heaven, known or unknown. We have come a long long way from those times, it was in the 800’s when Oct 31st became “all souls day” or so as we know it Halloween that has been inspiring  people for ages, from one generation to anther.
