“Unstoppable” is one of the better action-thrillers of the year, complete with two strong lead performances by Chris Pine and Denzel Washington and a visual scheme that isn’t completely dedicated to special effects.
Though director Tony Scott has delivered some clunkers in his day, most recently “The Taking of Pelham 123,” we see with “Unstoppable” that he has a good feel for the action genre when he finds the right story and he delivers an entertaining bang-up of a thriller.
“Unstoppable” has a very similar feel to 1994 thriller “Speed,” and likely not by accident. The strength of both movies isn’t in the effects or the action premise, as the characters are given a chance to actually become human and not action clichés.
