Scott Eastwood has joined the ensemble of “Fast 8,” the next installment in the “Fast and Furious” franchise.
Eastwood joins Charlize Theron, who will portray a new antagonist.
The latest installment begins production this summer with a planned April 14, 2017, release. Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson and Michelle Rodriguez will reprise their roles, with F. Gary Gray taking over the directing reins. Neil Moritz and Diesel will produce.
Eastwood is playing the protege of Kurt Russel’s federal agent, who will be reprising his role in the latest installment as well.. Plot details are under wraps, although sources have told Varietythat Cuba will be one of the destinations the production will visit during its shoot.

Eastwood can be seen next in another big franchise, “Suicide Squad,” as well as the Oliver Stone biopic “Snowden” and the Ben Affleck-helmed “Live by Night.” He also recently joined thecop thriller “Crown Vic” opposite Alec Baldwin.
