Universal is looking to reboot one of its cult classics, beginning development on a remake of “An American Werewolf in London” with Max Landis and “The Walking Dead” producers Robert Kirkmanand David Alpert.
Landis, whose father, John Landis, directed the original, will pen the script and direct the pic with Kirkman and Alpert producing through their Skybound Entertainment banner.
The 1981 horror-comedy followed two American college students who are attacked by a werewolf while traveling in London. One student is killed in the attack while the other survives, only to realize he has attracted the gene that transforms him into the terrifying creature every full moon.
John Landis and Anthony Waller, who helmed “An American Werewolf in Paris,” recently closed a deal with Universal for the remake rights. Sources press that this project is still very much in early development.
Max Landis is a writer/producer on “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency” on BBC America and his screenplay, “Bright,” was acquired by Netflix and is currently being filmed by David Ayer. He is repped by CAA and Writ Large.
